DERBYSHIRE RACING currently have four horses in training with John Mackie, who’s stables are situated within the beautiful Barton Blount country estate near Church Broughton, South Derbyshire.
Below is a brief description of our horses - click the name tabs on the left hand side for additional information, a photo and the pedigree details of each horse:
AVAILABLE ANGEL - A five year old filly bred by the Richard Kent at the Mickley Stud and is the 2nd offspring of our 7 time winning ex-race mare Available.
She is beautiful bay filly by the sprint sire Heeraat and is the full sister to Heartstar, who won for Derbyshire Racing as a 3 year old over 6f at Bath.
To date she is the winner of 2 races, both 8f handicaps at Yarmouth, a track that seems to bring out the best in her on good or good to firm ground.
BALADIO - A very well bred 5 year old chestnut filly that decendes from HRH The Aga Khan staying bloodstock lines. She is yet to win but has been placed in several decent handicaps on the flat over a range of distances and stays 1m6f well.
This dual purpose filly has had 1 run over hurdles to date, running well when 3rd in a 2m3f Novice event at Hereford on her jumping debut, which we hope will be the making of her. She has the size and scope for hurdling, jumped well on debut and we look forward to watching her progress in 2021/22.
CUSTARD THE DRAGON - An 8
year old gelding by Kyllachy that has become a stable star over the 5 years Derbyshire
Racing have owned him, winning 9 times in all, with 8 of those coming at Southwell on the Fibresand.
He also goes well at Newcastle on the Tapeta and was a winner there over 7f in 2019. He has proved to be a very popular horse, both with Derbyshire Racing owners and the racing
public, and we look forward to enjoying another AW season with him in 2021/22.
VIVENCY - Our latest recruit to the Derbyshire Racing team, she was bred by Juddmonte in the USA and has an outstanding pedigree, being by the Frankel full brother Noble Mission out of a high quality Juddmonte dam family.
To date she is the winner of a 7f handicap at Kempton, where she showed a fine turn of foot despite not settling early and has also ran some admirable races in defeat during 2021, placing 7 times.
She is good looking, talanted filly that we think is capable of improving for a change in scenary and work routine and we hope she can provided us with plenty of excitement in 2022.
